PDF to Excel

Convert tables in a text-based PDF into an Excel workbook with one sheet per page. It works best on simple tables and complex layouts need review.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a text-based PDF.
  2. Decide whether plain numbers should be stored as numbers.
  3. Select Convert to Excel and check the preview.
  4. Download the workbook and review it in Excel.

When to use it

Limits

Reads text positions and guesses rows and columns, one sheet per page. Works best for simple tables with clear gaps between columns. Merged cells, tables with no gaps, wrapped cells and complex layouts need manual correction. Scanned PDFs contain no text; use OCR PDF first. Fonts, borders and colours are not kept. Up to 50 MB and 100 pages.

Privacy and file handling

Processed in your browser. The pdf.js library loads from a public CDN; your file is not uploaded.

Troubleshooting

If columns look wrong, try a PDF exported directly from the source program rather than a scan or print-out. If the file has no text, use OCR PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Will it keep the formatting?

No. Text and the row and column layout are recreated as well as possible; fonts, colours and borders are not kept.

Why is my scanned PDF refused?

A scan has no text to read. Run OCR PDF first.

Why are my columns wrong?

Columns are inferred from where text sits on the page. Borderless, merged or wrapped cells can be misread, so review and correct the result.
