Image converter
Convert images between JPG, PNG and WebP in your browser. Transparency is handled correctly and the result is checked before you download it.
How to use this tool
- Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image.
- Choose the output format.
- If the image is transparent and you choose JPG, pick a background colour.
- Select Convert image and download the result.
When to use it
- Turning a PNG into a smaller JPG.
- Creating WebP images for a website.
- Converting a WebP picture so any app can open it.
Limits
Supports JPG, PNG and WebP in both directions. The result is re-opened to check its format and size before download. Animation is not kept: only the first frame of an animated image is converted. Up to 25 MB. WebP output depends on your browser.
Privacy and file handling
Processed in your browser with canvas. Your image is not uploaded.
Troubleshooting
If conversion to WebP fails, your browser may not support WebP output; choose JPG or PNG. Metadata such as camera data is not kept.
Frequently asked questions
Why does JPG ask for a background colour?
JPG cannot store transparency. Transparent areas must be filled with a colour, white by default.
Why is my PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless. Photos are usually much smaller as JPG or WebP.
Are animated images supported?
No. Only the first frame is converted.
Does converting a PNG with a transparent background to JPG work?
Yes, but JPG cannot hold transparency, so the transparent areas are filled with a background colour you choose.
