Compress PDF
Try to shrink a PDF by redrawing each page as an image at a resolution you choose. Text stops being selectable and some files grow. Runs in your browser.
How to use this tool
- Read the warning: pages are redrawn as pictures.
- Choose a PDF, a resolution and a JPEG quality.
- Select Compress PDF and wait for each page.
- Compare sizes; download only if it is smaller and readable.
When to use it
- Getting a scanned or photo-heavy PDF under an upload limit.
- Making a quick small copy to email while keeping the original untouched.
- Testing a lower resolution before you submit a form that caps file size.
Limits
Text becomes an image, so it is no longer selectable or searchable; links, forms and bookmarks are lost. The result can be larger than the original. Up to 50 MB and 100 pages. No exact target size can be promised.
Privacy and file handling
Processed in your browser. pdf-lib and pdf.js are served by this site; your PDF is not uploaded.
Troubleshooting
If the library fails to load, you may be offline or blocking cdnjs. If the output is larger, lower the resolution or quality.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my PDF get bigger?
Pages were redrawn as images. PDFs that are already small or mostly text can grow; keep the original.
Is the text still selectable?
No. This method turns pages into pictures.
Will my PDF always get smaller?
No. The tool redraws pages as pictures, so a PDF that is already small or mostly text can become larger. The result page shows the actual sizes so you can keep the original instead.
Can I still select text afterwards?
No. Pages become images, so text, links and form fields are lost. Use Split PDF or Organize PDF if you only need fewer pages.
